Lexi came to us from another shelter. She was very pregnant and even more stressed. Who can blame her? She had been fending for herself after being left outside; then found herself in a shelter with all sorts of unfamiliar sights, sounds, and smells. She was terribly frightened and had no problem letting folks know she didn’t want to be there. They contacted King Street Cats about helping her, we just couldn’t say no and sent her to one of our most experienced foster homes for spicy moms.

Lexi was barely settled into her foster accommodations when she had her kittens. Unfortunately, things did not go well at all…only one of the five kittens survived, and we were very worried about this one survivor.

Just three days later we got a call from one of our wonderful vets. A client had brought in a tiny kitten, just a few days old, no mom or siblings in sight. Could we help? Perhaps Lexi would find room in her heart for this poor little orphan. The foster raced to pick up the kitten, held their breath and presented the little one to Lexi. She immediately took to the new kitten as if it was her very own. Sighs of relief all around.

Sadly, as we suspected might happen, the single surviving kitten passed away shortly thereafter. It was now up to the new kitten to comfort a grieving mom, a very big job for such a tiny soul.

While all this was going on a very young momma that had come to us when her people could no longer care for gave birth to SEVEN healthy kittens. Things were going pretty well but it became apparent that Mulan was struggling to care for seven and the littlest one was seriously lagging behind. We needed to find a solution, or we might lose this kitten.

It worked once. Would Lexi open her heart to another baby in need of help? She did!
So, Gray Baby the orphan, Seven the runt of the litter, and dear, generous-hearted Lexi have formed a sweet and very unique family.

Lexi has been a wonderful mom, and the two tiny, fragile kittens were strong enough to mend her broken heart. Several other kittens were subsequently added to the group. Although the additions were old enough to eat on their own, Lexi was a protective momma for all!  Now it’s Lexi’s turn to find her forever home.
